Ålvund - Isfjorden

Our travels from Ålvund - Isfjorden

Today we leave Ålvund around 09:30 and drive towards Innerdalen, supposedly the most beautiful high valley in Norway. We arrive at the car park, the starting point for this hike, at about 10 am. The hike is very easy by Norwegian standards, following a very steep gravel road up into the valley. But we are rewarded. At the highest point we get a beautiful view over the nature reserve, which consists of dense forests, mountains and a lake.

The only sign of people is a small farm in the valley below. Here sheep and chickens run free. We feel like we are in the Shire. Lush green grass covers rolling hills, streams and waterfalls make their way down the valley, and the sun glistens on the lake.

We picnic in the warm sun with views of the peaceful piece of earth. Chickens and sheep suddenly become very trusting and beg for a piece of our sandwiches. After a few selfies with a particularly trusting sheep, we walk back through the forest to the car. Our way leads us to Isfjorden, where our next accommodation is located. The drive there is very beautiful, we drive along fjords and have a view of sea coasts and mountains.

We check in at the campground right away and bring our luggage to our bungalow. Isfjorden is located as the name says at a fjord and several mountains are around it. We set off right away to make the hike to Litlefjellet. A lonely, winding road leads us up the mountains to the parking lot. From there we walk up a mountain, the hike is classified as easy by Norwegian standards, but there is a bit of climbing involved. At the top we have a beautiful view of a small lake and massive mountains.

As usual in Norway, the weather can change very abruptly and it begins to drizzle. So we already start the descent. But just as quickly as the rain came, it disappeared and a beautiful rainbow forms over the small lake. In the evening we cook in our accommodation and look at the great photos from this eventful day.
