Hamburg - Copenhagen
A morning in the Planten un Blomen park, the famous Chilehaus and one last detour to the Speicherstadt, then things get hectic: a bicycle race has the whole city centre closed off, the taxi never arrives, and we haul our luggage to the station on foot. We just barely catch our train to Copenhagen and arrive at midnight.
This morning, after a good night’s sleep, we go to a bakery and grab a variety of pastries, which we eat in the planten un blomen park in Hamburg’s city centre. The park is beautiful and spacious and really offers all kinds of different plants and flowers. We like it very much and have to overcome ourselves to leave the park. In Hamburg itself, there is a lot going on today because there is a big bicycle race and the whole city centre is closed off, making it very difficult to get around, even for pedestrians. We take a look at the Ratshaus and the famous Chilehaus, which was named after its architect, who lived in Chile for three decades. It is famous because it was the first building in this style in Hamburg and it really is a very special building, if only because of its pointed but nevertheless rounded architecture.
Of course, a short detour to the Speicherstadt is a must today before we take the e-scooter to the harbour for the last time, where we have our lunch. Then we go back to the hotel where we left our luggage and order a taxi to take us to the train station. But the taxi doesn’t come, and the app searches for several minutes for an available taxi. Until it dawns on us that there is probably no way through for cars in the city centre due to the bicycle race. So we have to walk with our bulky and heavy luggage through the chaotic city centre to the train station. We arrive totally exhausted and barely make it onto our train to Copenhagen. It leaves on time, but due to a border check, we miss our connecting train in Fredericia and have to catch the next one. But we don’t have to worry about food, because in Denmark snacks and drinks are included in first class. We arrive in Copenhagen at midnight a little more than an hour late, but then have no problem checking into our Wakeup Copenhagen hotel, where we get a very nice and clean room.
