Isfjorden - Atlantic Ocean Road

Our travels from Isfjorden - Atlantic Ocean Road

The day today unfortunately starts with cloudy skies and drizzle. We eat breakfast in our bungalow, pack our things and head west to the coast. We have chosen a way without a ferry, but it takes a little longer, because we have to drive all around a fjord. But when we pass the ferry, it just stops and waits to be loaded. Spontaneously we decide to take the ferry across the Langfjorden as well. The trip doesn't take long, after 20 minutes we are already driving on a normal road again. On the west coast in Bud there is a Coastal Trail, which we would like to walk along. Typical red Norwegian cottages can be found along the coast.

Unfortunately the weather is not so good today, so we shorten the trail and eat our lunch in the car. We continue to the next Coastal Trail in Farstad. The weather looks a bit better. Nevertheless, we strap on our rain jackets and walk to Farstadsanden, the beach of Farstad. We walk along the coast and enjoy the view of the open sea. A bit chilled out, we return to the car and drive the last few minutes to our next accommodation in Vevang. The Airbnb is well equipped and very spacious. We unload our luggage and drive to the nearby Atlantic Ocean Road. This stretch of coastline is known for its film location from the latest James Bond movie, No time to die. The small islands are connected with bridges, which offer a spectacular view. We stop at several viewpoints and marvel at the Storseisundbrua from all sides. The striking structure is part of the eight-bridge Atlantic Road in Lauvøyfjord, which is part of the Norwegian Landscape Routes. It bridges the Storseisund and is the largest of the eight bridges.

The weather is overcast but at least it is not raining. After an extensive photo and drone session we go to the accommodation and have dinner. After dinner, we are sitting comfortably at the kitchen table looking at our photos when we see the cloud cover break and the landscape is bathed in reddish sunlight. Not hesitating two seconds, we frantically grab our cameras, run to the car and drive as fast as we can to Storseisundbrua again to see the Atlantic Ocean Road at sunset. And we arrive not a second too soon. The last rays of sunlight illuminate Storseisundbrua and turn the whole sky red. The sea glistens in the setting sun. Gleaming sunlight floods the Altlantic Ocean Road. This sunset is definitely one of the most beautiful we have ever seen. Inspired, we drive back to our accommodation.
