Offersøykammen and Evening Light in Ramberg

The weather keeps changing. After firewood and cinnamon buns in Leknes we climb Offersøykammen for the third time, in wind and drizzle but with a view all around. On the way back the drone flies over the autumn road to Nusfjord, and in the evening the sky over the beaches of Flakstad and Ramberg turns red.

Getting there: By car on the E10, 6.5 km from Leknes to the Skreda rest area. The Nappstraumen tunnel between Flakstadøya and Vestvågøy is being renovated until the end of 2027 and can only be driven in an escorted convoy.

Today the weather is very changeable. After a hearty breakfast of dark bread, jam, cheese and crispbread we set off towards Leknes.

The road leads through the Nappstraumen tunnel, which connects our island, Flakstadøya, with Vestvågøy. The tunnel is being renovated until the end of 2027, so you cannot simply drive in. Instead you are escorted through in a convoy behind a pilot car.

In Leknes we first buy firewood, because yesterday we had run out for the fireplace. Then we go to Huset Kafé, a small café in Leknes. The cinnamon bun is very good, and so is the blueberry muffin.

With full stomachs we drive a little way back west to Offersøykammen. We already know this 436 metre mountain. In 2021 we stood on top under an overcast sky and had forgotten the drone batteries. In 2022 we came back with batteries, and since then it has been our favourite hike in the Lofoten. So today is our third time.

We park at the Skreda rest area on the E10. The path is steep all the way, and the climb takes us about an hour. It keeps drizzling, and the wind is strong. On the way up the clouds break open for a moment, and the sunbeams fall on the water in broad bands.

At the top we are rewarded for all the effort. From Offersøykammen we have a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains and fjords. Below us lies a bay with a pale sandy beach, pointed peaks rise into the clouds behind it, and on the other side a headland stretches into the open sea. The slopes are already reddish brown with autumn.

Then we drive back towards Ramberg and catch the next escort through the tunnel straight away. On the other side the weather is reasonably nice for the moment. So we take a short detour onto the road to Nusfjord, which we drove in the rain two days ago. We want to take more photos in this autumn mood, with the drone as well.

From the air you can see the road winding through yellow and orange shrubs. Dark firs and small lakes lie in between. A thin waterfall drops down the rock face, and clouds hang over the grey walls. At the end we walk a stretch of the road hand in hand, with the rock faces ahead of us.

On the way back we first stop at Flakstadstranda, the surfers’ beach. We catch exactly the moment when the sky turns reddish from the sunset. The waves run flat across the sand, and in the background a small red house stands at the edge of the meadow.

The drive over to Ramberg takes only a few minutes, the road curving through the brown meadows.

At Rambergstranda we want to take photos in front of the well-known red house on the beach. The whole beach is bathed in lovely evening light. Behind the bay lie the houses of Ramberg, and dark clouds are already gathering over the mountains again.
