Rainbows in Nusfjord and Fredvang

In the morning a very friendly electrician fixes a few things in the house and gives us some tips. It rains almost all day, but in return we see lots of rainbows. In Nusfjord we have cinnamon buns and carrot cake, on the way back a rainbow over the beach at Fredvang, and in the evening we play Rummikub.

This morning an electrician comes by to fix a few things in the house. He is super friendly and gives us tips for day trips and for eating out. We already know all of the day trip tips, though, because the Lofoten are no longer new territory for us.

The weather is not on our side today. It rains almost all day, with only very short dry spells now and then. But that has an upside: we see lots of rainbows.

We drive to Nusfjord. On the way the trees along the road are already glowing autumn yellow, and above the lake waterfalls run down the rock faces, half hidden in the mist. When we arrive in Nusfjord, the windscreen wipers are still going.

Nusfjord is one of the oldest fishing villages in Norway. We were here in August 2022 and in February 2024. Back then a storm was whipping up the sea, and Nicolas almost lost his drone, which could not fly back against the gusts and only returned thanks to its return-to-home function. We walk through the village, between the yellow and red houses by the water and past a fishing boat at the quay. From a little higher up we look over the roofs to the harbour, and between the showers a rainbow appears over the rocks here too.

Afterwards we stop at the café. Just like in February 2024, we have cinnamon buns and carrot cake.

On the way back we cross the two curving Fredvang bridges and stop briefly at the beach at Fredvang. This is where we set off on the hike to Kvalvika Beach in September 2022. Another great rainbow stands over the sand and the shallow water, and of course we photograph it. The next rain shower is already hanging over the mountains behind. At the edge of the beach there is a small house with a grass roof.

Back at the house we charge the Ford right at the charging point.

In the evening we have rice with three Indian sauces and garlic naan to bake ourselves. Then we play Rummikub, the Norwegian version, where some of the numbers are replaced by the figures J, Q, K and A.
