A Rainy Day in Sakrisøy

By

After the northern lights night we sleep in, the forecast is poor anyway. We drive to Å and Sakrisøy, where Annina hears half the life story of the antique shop owner while Nicolas wanders through the village. In the evening we light a big fire, eat the leftovers of the last few days and pack our suitcases.

Yesterday we only went to bed at 03:30 because of the northern lights. Since the forecast for today is poor anyway, we sleep in first.

Then we have our usual breakfast: crispbread and dark bread with jam and cheese, and Frokost juice with it. After that we set off towards Å, at the very south of the Lofoten, where we make a short stop at the tourist shop. We were in Å on our first day in the Lofoten already, when we drove straight from the ferry in Moskenes to the end of the world.

From Å we drive back to Sakrisøy. We know the village well. In August 2022 we stayed here in a small mini villa and looked out over breakfast at the orange houses reflected in the fjord. Today we visit an antique shop. Annina gets on well with the owner, who tells her half her life story. Meanwhile Nicolas wanders through Sakrisøy and takes some photos.

It is grey and wet. The rorbuer of Sakrisøy are painted ochre and stand on stilts by the water. On a wooden deck stands the old wheelhouse of a boat, next to it a wet picnic table. The pointed Olstind rises behind one of the houses, and the red and orange autumn foliage runs down the slopes to the water.

Between the houses, wooden walkways and steps lead down to the water.

From there you look across the calm bay to the red rorbuer on the other shore.

Then we go to Anita’s Café. Like yesterday there are cinnamon buns, and a hot chocolate with them.

And then it is already 18:30 again. We drive back to our cabin near Ramberg, where we first light a big fire to chase away the rainy weather outside. We bought the firewood in Leknes the day before yesterday, and now we are glad of it. For dinner we use up the leftovers, everything that is still there from the last few days.

After that we pack our suitcases, because tomorrow we move on. Later we play two more rounds of Rummikub, as we did on the evening after the rainy day in Nusfjord.
