Wind is the keyword of today.
After breakfast we drive to Tjolöholms Slott, which lies south of Göteborg. The castle stands on an arm of the North Sea and it is known that very rough weather conditions prevail there. The architect Lars Israel Wahlman designed this castle and it was completed around 1904. A castle garden has been laid out around the castle, crossed by hiking trails. By Central European standards the present castle is not that old yet, but the place where it stands has been inhabited for a long time. As early as 1231 the then King of Denmark resided there. When we arrive we are astonished at the rush of visitors. We are no longer used to car parks this full. The castle is very beautiful and stands right next to the sea, where we later have a picnic. We feel the rough weather conditions right away in the form of wind. It almost blows us off our feet even when sitting, and the seagulls visibly struggle to stay in the air too.
It seems as though we haven’t had enough wind yet, because afterwards we drive to the Näsbokrok nature reserve, where we walk past grazing cows to the sea. It is so windy there that we can almost lean completely into the wind without falling over. The salt water sprays through the air, the waves pile up, the wind whistles around our ears, our eyes water. There are no seagulls here any more, probably even they find the wind too fierce. Still, we very much enjoy this special experience too and capture the mood photographically.
On the way back we stop at an ICA Maxi in the middle of the shopping area of Kungsbacka. We are amazed at the sheer size of this shopping area, because we have to drive for kilometres and through dozens of roundabouts until we reach our supermarket.
In the evening we cook mashed potatoes with Vegobullar, plus lingonberry jam and gravy.
