We are off on our travels once again! Our next destination: Norway! We simply couldn’t get enough of the north. The first destination in Norway is Oslo, and the Lofoten are to be the fitting end to this year’s travels. Early in the morning, in rainy, cool weather, we set off, take the train to Zurich and have a direct flight with Swiss from there to Oslo. The flight is calm and after about 2 hours we land in Oslo in the finest summer weather. We take the train to the city centre, to the main station (Oslo S), and walk from there to our hotel, which is only a 5-minute walk from the station. The City Box Hotel is a modern hotel with an electronic check-in. There are lounges with seating, a small shared kitchen, a ping-pong table, table football and darts. The rooms are rather small but modern and clean. First we unpack and then want to explore the immediate surroundings on foot. The first place we walk to is the waterfront promenade.
The waterfront promenade is teeming with people, no wonder on a brilliantly sunny Sunday afternoon. There are a few restaurants and again and again we pass saunas in or by the sea and people swimming. The people up here seem to know what is part of life. What particularly stood out to us were the “floating saunas”, which you can take out to sea as if on a boat. On the promenade lies Oslo’s famous and futuristic opera house. The architecture is very special, some walls consist only of glass and the roofs of the opera house can be walked on. The view of the sea and the harbours is wonderful. We enjoy the northern air and the sun. We continue past many restaurants, bathing spots and concerts right by the sea until we turn around and go back to the hotel. In the evening we are pretty exhausted and order our dinner to the hotel with Wolt and eat in the lounge. There is hummus and pita bread.
