Råneå - Kiruna

We had breakfast in the villa’s dining room today. We could choose whether it should be brought to our room or whether we wanted to have breakfast in the villa itself. Of course we also wanted to see the manor house from the inside. The lady of the house welcomed us very kindly and had breakfast set out when we came. Since we were the only guests on the estate, we had the dining room to ourselves. We felt as if we were in another age. The room was beautifully decorated with chandeliers and candles provided a cosy atmosphere. The vegetarian breakfast prepared especially for us was beautifully presented and varied. After the meal we were even allowed to look at the other rooms of the villa. The rooms are opulent but very stylishly furnished, and it was an exciting experience. After the tour of the old manor house we checked out right away, as we have the longest stretch so far ahead of us. It is more than 300 km to Kiruna, our next and northernmost destination. We took turns driving and passed some remote roads. The drive turned into one big adventure.

The further north we drove, the more herds of reindeer we saw. The passenger diligently photographed the beautiful grazing animals each time. There was even a white reindeer among them. But it was not only reindeer, we saw many wild hares, and Annina saw a moose cross the road. It is not only the fascinating wildlife that delights us but also the landscape. About an hour before Kiruna the snow on the fields increased noticeably and some of the lakes were still frozen. The ice shimmers bluish and gives the landscape a mystical touch.

So we enjoy the long drive a lot and drive straight through to Kiruna without a longer break. We first buy our dinner and tomorrow’s lunch and then drive to our hotel, Hotel Kebne. We receive our room key in the form of a punch card, which lets us into the room as well as into the hotel from the outside. Once we are in the hotel room, we prepare our dinner and edit photos while we eat. Annina watches GNTM on her phone.
