After a longer night we go for a leisurely breakfast at a café near our hotel. There is apple strudel, which is still served warm. The temperature is clearly lower than in Budapest, but towards noon the weather gets nicer and nicer. We explore many sights in the centre of Vienna on our own on foot. On the way we see the Hofburg, the Volksgarten, the Parliament, the Heldenplatz, the City Hall, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the two monuments to Empress Sisi and Emperor Franz Josef.
We also go into the Palace of Justice, which can be visited freely after a thorough security check. The building is furnished very lavishly and has countless richly detailed decorations. We take a few photos and go to the cafeteria on the top floor, from where we enjoy a great but windy view over Vienna. Afterwards we see the Anker Clock up close and walk to the Hundertwasser House and the other buildings that belong to it.
On the way back towards St. Stephen’s Cathedral we pass several restaurants and marvel at the typically Austrian fare. With a view of St. Stephen’s Cathedral we eat our first Mozartkugel here in Vienna.
Then we go into a few shops. At the hotel we order traditional Viennese food: dumplings and cheese spaetzle.
