Budapest Day 1

Today we are off on a trip again… We are flying to Hungary, to Budapest to be precise! A city, and a country too, that we have never been to! We fly from Basel with EasyJet, including two pieces of hand luggage, all the way to Budapest. We arrive a little earlier than planned and just catch the airport shuttle bus, which drops us off in the middle of the Hungarian capital. We spend the first two nights on the “Pest” side of Budapest. Our hotel is right in the centre of this very lively side of the city. We check in at our boutique hotel and change into shorts, because it is 35 degrees Celsius and the sun is blazing from the sky. We still have the whole afternoon in Budapest and decide to simply walk aimlessly through the city today and do some shopping. But first we need some sustenance, so we get a Thai bowl whose ingredients were flambéed over an open fire. Then we buy a few little things and some clothes. Everything here is a little to a lot cheaper than in Switzerland. A small moment of shock after shopping: Annina suddenly realises that she left her sunglasses behind in a changing cubicle in one of the shops. We already suspect that there is not much left to save, since we are in a big city with very busy shops. But the sunglasses are actually still exactly where Annina left them. Lucky us! We have our dinner in an upscale Indian restaurant. The dishes are not only extremely delicious, they also look it. Everything is carefully prepared and beautifully presented. After dinner, at half past eleven in the evening, we walk to the lively square with St. Stephen’s Basilica and enjoy the great evening atmosphere with the illuminated church. There we also meet an American woman who studies art and used to be an opera singer. We arrange to possibly have a coffee the next day. Tired, we go to the hotel, where we watch a series before going to sleep.
