Turtles at Nipah Beach and snorkelling at the hotel

In the morning we rent a scooter via WhatsApp, as always, and it is delivered directly to our hotel. We drive to the Turtle Sanctuary at Nipah Beach. At 10 am it is clear at 29 degrees. There we see baby turtles. Several of them swim in shallow water over light tiles, their small dark shells stand out against the floor, and rings of ripples show on the water surface.

Then we go snorkelling in the ocean, where we see six turtles underwater. In one of the pictures a snorkeller with fins swims above a large turtle, and below the two of them lies a brownish overgrown sea floor.

Afterwards Nicolas teaches some locals about nerdy stuff like action cameras and drones. The sand on the beach is dark grey, and behind it the surf rolls into the blue sea. A swing hangs between wooden poles, a blue swim ring lies next to it, and a string of lights is stretched across the spot. Annina stands in the shade of the trees next to parked scooters, and Nicolas holds the drone in his hand with a helmet on his head.

There are two more pictures from the snorkelling round. A turtle glides through the deep blue water, and someone with fins swims nearby.

At 3 pm we are back at the hotel, it is clear at 29 degrees, and we go snorkelling again. We see starfish as well as a lot of fish and some corals. A blue starfish lies on sandy ground next to a brown block of coral. In another spot a round, reddish brown formation with light tips stands between the stones. In the third picture the reef is at its densest, with branching corals in yellowish brown and once more a blue starfish.

Two shots show the light underwater. Sunrays fall through the surface into the deep blue, in the distance a shoal of slender fish passes, and in one picture a hand reaches into the water.

A magnificent sunset presents itself. The sun is low above the water, the sky is orange, and Nicolas walks barefoot across the sand with the camera in his hand.

Nicolas also takes some photos of a local fisherman wading through the shallow water, and they look stunning. One of them is the cover photo of this post. The fisherman wears a hat and holds a long pole, and behind him the volcano Mount Agung on Bali stands out, which we already know from Amed. Nicolas sends him the photos via WhatsApp, so he is now connected to an Indonesian fisherman on WhatsApp.

Annina also walks along the water, in a white lace cover-up, and looks at the volcano above the orange water.
