The breakfast is tasty: toast with avocado, scrambled egg, slices of tomato and crispy strips of onion. At 1 pm it is 27 degrees. A pool with a wooden deck lies under a blue sky, behind it stand palms and pavilions with thatched roofs, and in the distance we can see the sea with white crests.
For excursions in the area we rented a scooter via WhatsApp, as always, and with it we ride to the surfer beach Selong Belanak. It lies on the south coast of Lombok and is especially popular with beginner surfers. Accordingly, it is crowded there. Every 5 metres we are approached by “surfing teachers” who want to sell us beginner lessons, and they all rent out sunbeds as a side business too. Blue parasols stand along the shore, and surfers and bathers wade in the shallow water. It is too much for us, so we quickly leave this beach.
We drive on to a very secluded beach. The way there is merely a dirt path. On the way we meet water buffalos and a Bindenwaran, a lizard 1 m long. At some point the path gets sketchy and very slippery, so we leave the scooter behind and walk on. If we had known beforehand that there are multiple deadly snakes on Lombok, we probably wouldn’t have taken this route. However, we get to the beach safely without meeting any snakes.
The beach is fantastic. We are alone and it is so beautiful. The sand is light, the waves run out in white foam, and a densely wooded slope rises behind the beach. However, the waves are too strong to swim there. So we fly around with the drone and chill a bit before heading back.
On a meadow below the wooded slope, brown animals stand in the grass, and a person bends over among them.
We also find huge shells. They lie next to each other on a round wooden table, along with two small snail shells. For dinner we have Rösti. Just kidding, it is Nasi Goreng, fried rice, but with the fried egg on top it kind of looks like Rösti.
