Reinebringen - Å

After this long night we sleep in until 09:00 today before having a leisurely breakfast. Today we want to conquer Reinebringen.

The hike up this 448 metre high mountain is one of the most popular in Norway. We park a few kilometres past the start of the hike, because we can leave the car here for free. That has another positive side too, since by the time we reach the trailhead we are already warmed up. A stone staircase built by Nepalese Sherpas winds its way up the steep mountain. At the moment there are 1566 steps to tackle, some of them very high, before you reach the top.

So we climb up into airy heights, always with a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains and the sea. In places the steps stop and we carry on through deep mud and over rocks. On the way up it also starts to rain lightly. Fortunately it has stopped raining by the time we reach the top, but it is still heavily overcast and foggy at that height! We enjoy the view of the many mountains and the sea below us and then start the descent.

The descent is easier for us than the climb, but it takes more muscle, since every step has to be cushioned. We wash our shoes in a mountain stream once we have put the muddiest stretches behind us. Back at the car we warm up for the first time with the seat heating and the steering wheel heating and then eat our lunch. We have ready-made salads and cheese sandwiches that we had prepared. It is already late afternoon, but we decide to drive to the very southern end of the Lofoten, to Å. That is where the E10 ends, the road we followed for a very long time in Sweden all the way to Kiruna.

The end of the E10 is a large car park, from which a path leads on to a beautiful viewpoint, which we naturally follow. We reach rocks that open up views of the sea all around and of more high rocks. From there we can also see Sørland, a tiny island inhabited by 600 people that is said to be very beautiful too. Soon after this excursion the rain starts again and we are glad to sit in the warm car on the way to Hamnøy. Once in Hamnøy we go into our little fishing cabin and first enjoy a hot shower and soup.
