After another delicious breakfast we head to the airport of Lombok for our journey back home. On the terrace stands a long wooden table with a jug of orange juice, a storage jar of cornflakes, a bowl of yoghurt with a green leaf and two plates with fried food, slices of avocado and salad. Annina sits smiling at the table. A long, narrow pool is edged with light stone slabs, behind it lies a sunken seating area with grey cushions, and grasses and pink flowers grow along the edge.
Because of the suitcases a scooter is out of the question for us, so a car with a driver that we booked takes us to the airport. It lies near Tanak Awu, and around 12 o’clock it is cloudy there at 32 degrees. Our boarding pass says Garuda Indonesia, flight GA 433 from Praya to Jakarta, boarding at 2:25 pm at gate 4.
Then we get a little shock. On Flightradar we see that our flight is cancelled. The screenshot from 11:39 am local time shows, for Saturday, 27 September, flight GA433 to Jakarta at 2:45 pm with the note “Canceled”. On the departures board in the terminal, however, it appears with the status “On Scheduled”. Luckily this is just false information.
After some fried bananas, called Pisang Goreng in Indonesian, we are heading towards Jakarta, our first leg of the journey home. Three golden-brown fried pieces of banana lie on a black plate with a paper liner. From the airplane window we see the wing with a blue tip, behind it a green meadow and deep grey clouds.
At 11 pm we are in Tangerang, where the airport of Jakarta is located. It is called Soekarno-Hatta. The hall is high, the ceiling consists of triangular panels that shimmer in the yellow light. The signs read «Domestic Check-in E-F» and «Garuda Customer Service».
From Jakarta we head on with Thai Airways towards Bangkok. Bangkok is a huge city, with seemingly never-ending lights and streets. We buy some spicy curry sauces there before stepping onto our last plane of the journey.
